Thing 20

I have heard of you tube, but I've never had a desire to log in to watch. I don't have a home computer, so my internet time is limited. Since t.l.c. 2.0 requires a youtube visit, I visited and was pleased. Youtube was pleasing because they have a functioning search feature; you can search using a keyword. I searched using the word 'braid.' I was told that I could find an instructional video for braiding in the past, but I never made the time to find it. I found three braid videos. One supposedly was for instruction, but the videos aren't long enough for you to really learn. You tube not only provides entertainment, it provides a forum for networking and advertising. A few of the braiders posted their phone numbers and made their post into a commercial. You tube requires a log in to post a video, which makes the owners of You tube and the hackers richer. You tube is a win win situation.

Thing 19

Thing 19 invited us to look at more web 2.0 tools from an awards list. The web 2.0 awards list was extensive. I am glad we were given the suggestion to choose a topic, and then explore. I chose health beause to me, that is a very important topic. The first website that came up was www.peertrainer.com.
I was quite pleased as I viewed their site. Peertrainer. com appears to be a nice way to meet people with similar interests and goals. You meet people by joining a small group, some that have limits of four people. You also have the option of creating a group, in the hopes that others will join you. you can search for a group by location or topic. I searched by location, using my zip code, and I found a group that is as close to me as Sunrise Boulevard. www.peertrainer.com deserved to be on the awards list.

The Zoho site sounds great. I'll have to play around with it more to see if it really works.
It's great to have microsoft word capabilities for 'free.'

Thing 17

Playing around with PBWiki sandbox. The idea of an online community seems beneficial to the library community. Wiki is all new to me. I've heard of wikipedia.com, but I never truly knew the definition of a wiki.
I still don't like the term. Yes, I would love to read and I wouldn't mind contributing to a BCL wiki.

Thing 16

Of course I loved Princeton's Booklover's wiki the best. Wiki's are great for creating an online community. Many of our customers use the computer. Some are readers, some aren't, but they are all online.

Rollyo

Rollyo was new to me. I am still learning how to use it. Thanks to Debbie and Sedona Dee I have learned how to publish my results in this web log.

Online image generators are great! You receive a finished product in seconds. I enjoyed bighugelabs.com the best. I still am having trouble publishing my results for others to see. I will ask Professor Robbie for assistance on this one.

I enjoyed reading the essay by the director of the University of Nevada at Reno. I agree with him about the just in case thinking. It is very hard to eliminate just in case thinking. Circulation is down, even though the librarything.com community are active library customers. I agree that we can slowly eliminate and not add to collections.

I also was intrigued by the lone female OCLC writer. Just thinking that next year there may be a library 3.0, and even a 4.0 makes me want to get all the information I need now. There is no time to wait.

Library #23

Face book is a decent site. Since I know the creators of Facebook are millionaires, I previous chose not to utilize that site. There are other ways to network, including alumni assocations, health clubs, etc. I am now a member of facebook.

Library thing #14

I have used librarything.com for a while since taking Stephen and Arlene's Reader's Advisory course. I enjoy cataloging my books, and looking at other's.

Thing 10

Delicious. At first I skimmed the tutorial to understand what delicious was all about. I had to read it again to understand what tagging is and how tagging works. Again, new vocabulary words that I wouldn't necessarily have created are being added to the American Standard Dictionary.
