Reference desk manual
Welcome to the reference desk manual. You are here to serve library customers all over the world. In order to give Sunsational service you should become familiar with our collection, our libraries, and the layout of the floor.
The ready reference collection is the collection right behind the reference desk. These books can't be checked out. You will find Yellow pages, local history reference books, and other items. Encyclopedias are located on the other side of the reference desk.
Customers who request books:
1. If the customer knows the title, open the catalog and search by title. If the title dose not appear, do a second search in google.com to make sure the title is correct. At times the customer might have mistakenly written down the wrong title, or overheard the wrong title.
2. If the customer knows the authors last name, open the catalog and search using the last name comma first name format. At times you may not know the correct spelling of the authors last name. Use an alternate search tool to find the correct spelling.
3. If the customer wants books on a subject, do a keyword or multiple index search using those terms. A second option is to use the dewey decimal list and search by subject listing.
4. Journal articles. Most non-business journals are available on line. Go to the Broward County home page. Click on electronic information, next look for magazines and newspapers.
Each one Teach one provides learning services for adults. Tutoring for children is not available.
Fax service is not available.
Color printing is available for an additional cost. Customers make the selection when they hit file print.

I have been a member of myspace since 2006. Myspace is a dating service, a music service, and advertising space. Myspace allows you to meet people virtually, if you are interested in dating. I know of a couple who met through myspace. I met someone through myspace. I don't think myspace lives up to its name. It is NOT a place for friends. It is just a dating site, a business site, and a music advertising site. Anytime someone adds you as friend, you'd better believe they have a music band they are trying to promote.Occasionally you can find old high school and college pals there, but communication with them usually trails off after a while.

Overdrive
I learned about overdrive the minute Broward County subscribed. However, since I have no home computer, I didn't sincerely pay attention. I was used to listening to books on c.d., and reading books. I will always have my books on c.d. and an actual book. Barnes and Nobles is still having a successful run at the book business. However, overdrive is great because there are times when my c.d. gets scratched, which ruins the listening experience. Overdrive allows a good listening experience for those with home computers.

Podcasts. I have been familiar with the term podcast, but I never took the time to watch one. I looked at the suggested directory, podcastalley.com and was deliciously pleased. I liked the way you can search for your favorite genre. Of course my favorite genre, comedy was listed! I have to review how to subscribe to my RSS feeds.
